In a remarkable turn of events, 70-year-old Safina Namukwaya has given birth to twins at a medical facility in the capital city of Kampala Uganda. Dr. Edward Tamale Sali, a renowned fertility expert, shared with the media that the mother utilized a donor egg and her partner’s sperm through an in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedure.
Despite the unconventional nature of the pregnancy, the medical team successfully delivered the twins, who arrived prematurely at 31 weeks. The infants are currently receiving specialized care in incubators at the Women’s Hospital International and Fertility Centre.
Traditionally, infants born after 36 weeks are considered full-term, but the premature birth of Namukwaya’s twins a boy and a girl has not deterred the doctors’ confidence in their well-being. Both mother and babies are reported to be in good health, with the medical staff providing attentive care.
Namukwaya, expressing her overwhelming joy, stated to the media, “There is no way to express my joy at this moment.” However, her excitement is tinged with a twist, as it has come to light that her partner has not visited her or the newborns since their arrival. Namukwaya speculated, “Maybe he is not happy that I delivered twins because men don’t want to know you are carrying more than one child in a womb for fear of the responsibilities that come with that.”
Maybe all men don’t have the courage to face twin pregnancy because it takes a lot of courage and patience to take care of the mother going through twin pregnancy, and the real challenges that come after the delivery raising twins.
