In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Vergara expressed her motivation to get different roles, but she acknowledges and commented on her accent saying “her Stupid accent” she doesn’t have much chance of getting the role she desires.
To Portray Griselda Blanco, Vergara wanted to make sure to provide the best efforts in her acting for that she hired esteemed acting coach Nancy Banks, renowned for her work with Top List Actors like Margot Robbie and Jennifer Aniston.
Sofia Vergara was worried about playing a tough role because she never had proper training in acting, she used to take tips from her ex-husband Joe Manganiello who is a proper actor, but with the guidance of her acting coach Nancy Banks, Sofia learned more about how portray her character Griselda Blanco.
As this was a totally new experience and an opportunity to play a character other than comedy, initially she wasn’t confident about her role but later she found strength in her own experiences and family connections as her brother also died in a narcotic world, her personal experiences helped her better understand her character and act the role with more confidence.
Sofia Vergara made the right choices in transitioning herself into roles other than comedy. With proper acting training from experts, she spared no effort in preparing to portray the impactful character of Griselda. Being Colombian herself, and with her family’s involvement in the narcotic world, gave her the confidence to portray the character authentically. In interviews, Sofia mentioned the extensive makeup transformations she underwent to resemble Griselda, from hair to nose and more.
