Netflix has released a new true crime documentary which is seen as the “real-life Gone Girl”, the three-part series, titled “American Nightmare,” is now available for streaming on Netflix.
The outline of the documentary reads: “After a home invasion and abduction, a young couple’s recounting of the events is too far-fetched for the police to believe. Why did the victims seem so calm? Was it all a hoax? The film maker’s motive is to reveal the consequences of people judging the situation quickly without investigating the matter thoroughly, and the damage it causes when law enforcement decides the truth is too good to be true.
The documentary revolves around an incident in 2015 caused to Denise Huskins and her Partner Aaron Quinn. When their home was invaded by kidnappers who drugged them and huskins was abducted and held for ransom. However, when Quinn went to authorities to report the crime and seek help, police held him responsible for the abduction.
This incident is very similar to the bestselling novel Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, the case mirrors the 2014 film adaptation Starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. In both stories and real-life incidents, the male is accused of kidnapping and the prime suspect when the Girlfriend/wife mysteriously disappeared.
The documentary explores how the couple fought for justice and the struggles they went through. Incorporation of a combination of real interrogation footage and News Interviews.
“American Nightmare” is now available for streaming on Netflix as of January 17.
