Potential Risks Of AI Systems: The Greatest Challenge For Humanity

What are the potential risks of AI? In the immaculate conference center, over a hundred experts in artificial intelligence (AI) from different parts of the globe are gathered under a seemingly simple premise: analyze and index how it is beneficial and the potential risks of AI systems for human beings.

The invited professionals – some of them will stop in this and other reports – cover diverse areas and have days ahead of them to debate how AI should develop, one could say in the future. But this, more than ever, is synonymous with how to protect Americans from AI systems.

What Are The Potential Risks Of AI

Because there is something on which divergent intellectuals around the world are converging: the foundation on which artificial intelligence will be based, and also what it will mean for humanity, is being created while you read this special. This is stated, for example, by the German futurist Gerd Leonhard in his statement on potential risks of AI systems: Technology against humanity, the clash between man and machine.

Leonhard is on the side of the trench that defends that our relationship with technology must, at least, be thought about. But he is not an alarmist. “I think we sometimes overreact to possible dangers, and we cannot go into the future with fear. We must be cautious, but open to progress,” he argues. But he is also the one who affirms that “the exponential technological development, and its tremendous potential, is an opportunity that brings with it new and tremendous responsibilities,” he maintains that “the avalanche of technological changes can reform the essence of humanity and also everything aspect of our planet,” he who believes that “technology is not what we look for but how we look for it.”

Statements that place him light years away from, for example, Natasha Vita-More, one of the leaders of transhumanism, a movement that advocates precisely embracing technology. Let’s call it synergy or symbiosis. Like Leonhard, this specialist in human-technological drift believes that 2024 is a crucial year for AI. She does not think that there is a debate of extremes between humanists and transhumanists. “There is no controversy because we both value human consciousness. The only exception is that we support human evolution, and they support stagnation.” How do you know, in the middle of the technological race, smartphone in hand, where you are?

Protect Americans From AI Systems? Is It From A Human Or A Machine?

How can we create robust artificial intelligence systems that do what we want, without errors or being hacked? How do we achieve prosperity through automation while maintaining human resources and objectives? How we update artificial intelligence legislation to make it more effective and fairer and consider its risks? What values should AI align with, and what should be the potential risks of AI systems to avoid?

President Biden Issued An Executive Order To Develop Safe And Reliable Ways To Protect Americans from AI

The Executive Order on Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence sets new standards for developing safe AI, and to protect Americans from AI, promoting equity and civil rights, defending consumers and workers, promoting innovation and competition, promoting American leadership in AI, and ensuring responsible and effective government use of AI.

The Executive Order includes the following actions:

New standards for AI safety

  1. Developers of the most powerful AI systems must share their security test results and other critical information with the US government.
  2. New standards, tools and tests will be developed to help ensure that AI systems are safe and reliable. American citizens will be protected from the risks of using AI to engineer hazardous biological materials by developing robust new standards for detecting biological synthesis.
  3. Americans will also be protected from AI-generated fraud and deception by establishing standards and best practices to detect AI-generated content and authenticate official content.
  4. Establish an advanced cybersecurity program to develop artificial intelligence tools to find and fix vulnerabilities in critical software, modeled on the Biden-Harris administration’s AI Cyber Challenge.

Together, these efforts will harness AI’s potentially revolutionary cyber capabilities to make software and networks more secure and protect Americans from AI.
